Odd Cable

I've been working with computers a long time now, but never have I seen a cable like this, anyone knows what it is for? A serial to 2.5 inch stereo.

I think it has to do with connecting a radio to your computer for control of the radio and sending info between the two.

its a com port add in and com ports can be programmed to support lots of signal usage they are a modders dream. I saw one once that was attached to a flow meter that was measuring water current and speed within a watercooling loop
