Default NVidia 6600gt

I recently installed a MSI nvidia 6600gt and installed the utility 3d! turbo experience to monitor temperature(which it doesn't) and it says my core clock is 300 mgz. and memory clock is 900mhz. I haven't tried to or will not try to overclock the card but doing some research I see the card is supposed to run at core- 500 and memory 900.

Anyone know why the core is so low?

It's because the core speed is 300MHz in 2D mode, like when you're just in Windows. When you run a game in 3D mode it will go up to 500MHz.
