New PC help please

Hi, Im going to sell my Vaio laptop as I have had it for a few months now, I paid £1250 for it and someone I know who builds PC's says I should get about £800 for it. Was just wandering if anyone could give me any advice on what sort of Desktop PC I should get for that sort of price (£900 - £1000 buget), any suggested systems, I need it for design, mainly for use with graphics, sound, video and animation programmes. I would like it to include a large TFT, I was advised by this person who builds them to get one custom built but I have no idea what to ask for, can anyone please just make any suggestions & point me in the direction of what to get, I need the system, a monitor, and keyboard. So suggestions would be greatly appriciated,
