Question New Hard Drive

Heya people I’m looking to get a new hard drive. This is gonna seem really stupid to most if not all reading this but I have never used a SATA connection before and want to know will my motherboard even work with a SATA hard drive?

As long as your motherboard has Serial ATA ports, then it should work. If you connect the sata hdd and it doesn't recognize, then check for a bios update.

Check your mobo. It should say in the manual if it has SATA connectors.

affirmative, you have sata,...what hdd do u plan on getting?

Recomendations:

wd 640gb
7200.11 500gb

Thanks for all your help people :-)
I was thinking on a 500gb as there are cheap enough these days. i will be using the hard drive for storage as a 2nd drive and will be keeping my current 200GB for windows.

Will prob end up getting one of these two as they are cheap and can’t afford to much at the mo:

SEAGATE BARRACUDA HARD DRIVE - SATA 500GB 7200RPM 16MB
OR
WESTERN DIGITAL GreenPower 500GB SATA HARD DRIVE 300

Anyone got any suggestions about which drive I should go for or does it really matter?

^well if u can not afford one of the drives i listed go for the seagate of those 2.

get the one luke recommended, it's a really nice hdd, and pretty fast.
