New Computer

Hello everyone, I am building a new computer and i need some help. This is what i am thinking of getting:

I came up with this combo for about $840 after rebates. I plan to get another vcard somewhere down the road for Sli mode. MY question is do i really need an Sli power supply for the $80 or could i save the $20 and go with a regular psu? Also i want to get a dvd/cd Burner. I was wondering if i need to get a sata one since everything else is gonna be sata? Or what else would be a good choice?
Please let me know what you guys think about my combo and questions. Any advice is great or if you know something better that i could get. I don't plan on spending any more money besides for the Burner.

Why aren't you building a socket AM2 computer?

If you must stick with AMD, drop down to a 3800 and get 2Gibs of ram and run it in dual channel.

Otherwise Conroe and 2GB of RAM.

A Ultra PSU would not be my choice.

So what is so good about an AM2? Tell me somethin about it, i'm realy new at building computers. Can you offer some suggestions on a board and cpu and what else i would need to change out to make a AM2 computer? Remember my budget is only $800-$900 (would rather stay near $800.

AM2 uses DDR2 memory. You would need DDR2 memory, a AM2 socket mobo, and of course the proc itself. Crucial memory is good same wtih OCZ and G.Skill. For a mobo I dont know really, I like DFI motherboards personaly. Asus boards are good aswell.

you should go for an am2 socket if you are going for an am2 build...a 939 would work but am2 is the platform that amd is going to work on now...

Well Amd had its day with the gaming CPU market... But now its Intels turn

Go for a Intel Core 2 Duo E6300, 1.86 Ghz... Dont let the clock speed fool you. When overclocked (Which is very easy to do) it can out peform a AMD 64 FX 60... And thats the budget model. Heres a complete Core 2 Duo System around $800 which will kick all the AMD's out of the water.
