I just bought an AGP GeForce 6800GS and now i also want to upgrade my Processor and therefore my mobo too. I have a Duron 1.8 Socket A oced to 2.0. Since im getting a new mobo i want one with PCI-E support but i also want to use my new agp card. Are there any mobo's that support both? If there are, what do u reccomend? Im looking for a pcu with at least 3Ghz and 64bit and HT support.

Here are some mobo's with both PCI-E and AGP. I would go with the first one (ASRock) if it was up to me.

For the CPU, I'd recommend, depending on how much you are willing to spend (cheapest -> expensive): AMD 64 3200+, AMD 64 3700+, AMD X2 3800+
Don't be fooled by the clock speeds. Even though they are lower than the intels, they perform better, especially at gaming. The number after the AMD 64 (eg. 3200, 3700) tells what speed pentium it is "equivalent" in performance to. The 3200 AMD = 3.2GHz P4, 3700 AMD = 3.7GHz P4, etc.
This thread has some good info about the benefits of AMD and Intel CPU's. The current dual core AMD CPU (X2 3800 outperforms pretty much every one of the Intel Pentium D's (I don't know how it stacks up to the newest ones).

Are the 3200+ worth it? And whats the diff between the 3200+'s i linked to?

and the newegg link for the mobo's dont work so i havent looked into taht yet, but i cant spend over 100 for a mobo. And for some reason i like the nForce chipset, is it good?

there is nothing differnt but for the shipping price and they = to the same amount one is $2 cheaper but shipping is 3.99 other one shipping is 1.99 so there the same thing and same value.

Both of the 3200's are identical.

Don't get the 3000+. Its for an older socket, so it isn't as good as the s939 ones. Get the 3200. It will deliver good performance and isn't overly expensive.

Hyperthreading is not the same as hypertransport.

Hyperthreading is a technology used by intel to increase the amount of work that the CPU can do by running two threads of data through it simultaneously.

Hypertransport is used by AMD and it basically replaces the FSB. You can sorta think of it as the FSB.

Hey guys, I also have a similar dillema, except I picked out an AMD 64 4000+. I checked out the newegg mobos, but found a somewhat overwhelmingly negative response to the ASRock AGP/PCI-E mobo. Could anyone recommend a Socket 939 mobo that has SATAII and (at the least) an AGP slot?
