Default Max CPU on my m/board

I have a 760gxk8mc micro ATX motherboard with an AMD Sempron 3000+ (1.8Ghz).
Can I upgrade the CPU and if so, what is the max speed CPU I can mount?

The fastest socket 754 was the 3700+ 2.4 GHz. You could upgrade it easy enopugh, but the hard part is finding one. You might have to flash your BIOS if the board doesn't recognize the chip, but that is very simple to do.

Thanks. Will the board support the faster CPU though?

According to the info I pulled on it it will. Like I said, you might have to flash the BIOS, but I'd wait and see.

you won't see much difference really with the athlon 64, more cache will help with gaming for sure but just try to overclock as much as you can on the sempron, i saw before your chip is able to overclock to 2.8ghz but thats with a tuniq tower, try to overclock as much as you can.

Athlon 64 > Sempron. I think the mobo is in a pre-built... if it is, overclocking is out of the question.

The extra cache and MHz will make a difference in gaming, as well as other tasks. A Sempron is a gutted Athlon 64, so it will be an upgrade both ways.

760gxk8mc matx board? should be able to overclock to 2.4ghzish

it will be an upgrade, but not a worthwhile upgrade.
