Hey all, This is my first post after spending hours confused by upgrading my pc.

I recently bought a ATI HD4850 series graphics card and now wish to upgrade my AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-core Processor 4200+ to something a little more current. I mainly use my computer for gaming, listening to music and watching movies. Ive semi-decided to get a AMD Phenom II 940 3ghz processor but i need to get a new motherboard to support it.

The motherboard needs to be Micro ATX and support PC3200 DDR Memory.

So i have 2 questions, Will any AM2+ Motherboard support my memory type and does anyone have any suggestions as to what motherboard i should i get?

Oh and im running vista 32bit

Well you will need to update your memory to ddr2 ram.
The good news is it is cheap.

What is your budget for cpu, mb and ram?
I am assuming this is all you need.

What psu do you currently run?

Any reason why it has to be a micro atx board? case limitations?

Yeah my budget is extremely tight.
I have £250 to spend on upgrading.
The processor will set me back £150, but i might change my mind on the one i get. I just want one that will be able to play games well at high settings while listening to music / downloading without slowing down completely.

I have a 600W PSU with a 20+4 pin connector.

and yeah has to be micro atx because of my case.

I do not know much about good micro atx boards for the PII. Sorry.

Thanks for the advice.

If i did get the PII X3 720 i could get ram and a motherboard as well (i checked prices and stuff)

So for what i need will the PII X3 720 be sufficient to do what i mentioned in the previous post?
