i was wondering if old invalid entries in the registry affect the performance of a pc?

NO, it will just make some programs run differently.

If you want to fix registry entires, download CCleaner

Program will just have different settings, and might run a little bit slower, but not noticably.

I use Tweak Now to clean out stray registry entries, as well as RegCompact to defrag my registry.

both are free and available on majorgeeks.com.
