Question Intel Dual-Core and Core 2 Duo Difference?

I was looking at the popular e2180 bubget cpu for a build. Noticed it is one the the few "Dual-Core" newegg has. What is the difference in the "Dual-Core" cpu like this and the "Core 2 Duo" cpu's.

Core 2 duo's are a little more high end. They have higher fsb than the dual cores, and for the most part they over clock higher as well. Don't get the wrong idea about the e2180 though, it can still perform especially if you OC it, and it can OC very well.

I thought the e2180 used the Core 2 architecture?

The e2180 is also m0 stepping. It has less cache than the "core2" chips but is essentially the same thing just with a lower stock speed. its 2ghz with a 200FSB and 10x multiplier.

Seems that they aren't. That's good... cause I think a 3+ GHz E2180 sounds awesome.

They're def core 2 architecture. You can get one to 2.9-3.0 on stock vcore.

crippled Core 2 Duos with disabled cache or defective cache, instead of throwing away a chip they just down clock it and disable some of the cache and still make $100's on the chip
