Default Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 on a ASUS P5N-D S/L 1333FSB (NVIDIA 750i) Motherboard

Can this Intel Core 2 Duo run on this motherboard?

Max. CPU Support

Intel Celeron 460/E1300
Intel Core 2 Duo E4700/E6850/E8500
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850/QX9650
Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800
Intel Core 2 Extreme Q6700/Q9550
Intel Pentium 4 3.80GHz
Intel Pentium 4 571/672
Intel Pentium D 840/960
Intel Pentium Dual Core E2220

---

Does this mean that the E7400 can't run on this motherboard?

It will run it fine. If it can do an E8500 (ntm Q9550), it can definitely do an E7400.

Just for future purposes, can you please answer the following:

- Why didn't it list that it can handle an E7400, is there a set of standards that are typically understood?
- Can you explain if there are any differences and potential upgrade info?

Thanks

In the Core 2 series (of both duo and quad), there are 65nm series and 45nm series. Some older S775 motherboards existed before the 45nm ones came out, so some older motherboards didn't support them. Since the mentioned E8500 is a 45nm processor, and the mentioned E4700 is a 65nm processor, it evidently supports both.
(for example)

It also helps that I used to own a P5N-D until about a month ago and I know from experience Works great btw, you get a reasonable OC on it and SLI is a bonus.

If sli isn't a requirement and you plan on overcloking I recommend getting a Biostar, Gigabyte or Asus p45 motherboard instead of the 750i.

Doesn't actually look that good, you'd better off getting this, it's better (more RAM slots, 2 PCI-E slots for Crossfire) and in the same price range
Asrock Skt-775 4core1600twins-p35 S/l 1333FSB Motherboard 4Core1600Twins-P35 Buy : Tek Computers
Of course that's only from looking at that site, you might be able to get something better from another site like Scan, Aria, eBuyer or Dabs.

The main feature of the 750i chipset (which is generally not provided by other chipsets) are the two PCI-E slots for SLI (most of the Intel ones do Crossfire).
Look at this handy table on Wikipedia, it lists the main features
