Does anyone know of a website that goes step-by-step on how to install a CPU? Oh and one more thing, what is thermal compound used on? Thank you.

If you buy a retail motherboard or CPU, they should come with step by step directions.

Thermal paste or compound is used inbetween the cpu and the heatsink to transfer heat. With out it, the heatsink would not obtain the heat and the CPU would over heat.

Retail heatsinks come with Thermal compound pre-applied.

I believe Arctic silver's web site shows you how to put on thermal compound if you need it. Many new heatsink/fan combinations come with a thermal compound patch already. Some people like to remove this and put on their own compound. Its easy to do if you have the right equipment. I generally scrape it off with a razor blade (being careful not to scratch the heatsink). After that, residual thermal compound can be removed with Xylene. Unless you are going to do overclocking, most people go with the stock thermal compound that comes on the HSF.

When they say an ESD can damage the board, do you have to keep touching an anti-static bag so you don't damage the board? Or just rub both your hands over it once and you're good to install? Anyways thanks for the great help.

You can touch metal or wear an anti-static wrist band.
