Default how to seperate os and data

I am trying to put together a pc, and want to know how to partition the had so that I can seperate the os from the data and also how does this work. I have 2hd's and was thinking about installing linux also to toy around with. What would be the best way to accompish this?

k so im guessing you have windows right. alrigh. u have a 2nd hard drive right. put the second hard drive in as the master drive, and the one that has windows installed on it, as the slave. then u install Linux on the master hard drive, and GRUB will install itself, that is of course if ur using Suse, i havent used any other linux so i wouldnt know.
