How to get OS onto new HD?

I am in the process of planning out my new PC build and I just thought about something.....I don't have the full version of XP, I only got the upgrade as I had ME previously. That being said, am I stuck with having to buy the full version or can I simply transfer it onto the new HD from the old one?

install ME first... then apply the Xp upgrade to the ME OS.

Dayum, looks like I gotta buy a full version then. Any reason to go w/Pro instead of Home?
