Ok, I need a new laptop for university. What I need in order of importance:

Quite(my P4 laptop is a LOUD machine)
Battery life
Quality (this has to last at least 3 more years)
Performance

This is going to be used mainly for wireless internet, music and movies, and word processing. Not that into video games, so I donÂ’t mind any of that. Im in class a lot so I need a solid battery. I also need one that wont crap out on me in a year, so quality is important.

I really need something that is quite too. Like said above, my p4 2.2ghz laptop is a loud boy. Too loud to use in class, but fine for home. Thing is, if I needed a computer for home, id buy a PC with a screen bigger then 14"hahah

Here are the three im looking at buying (prices are wrong, I get a 15% (I think) student discount ). Decide which will fit my needs the best. Could you order them from best to worst?

so what are you going to be using it for specifically? just typing up stuff, and a few extra things?

if that's the case, I'd suggest a Macbook, with a Core Duo

the 1.83GHZ Core Duo will do fine (don't let the clock speed fool you, it's much better than a Pentium 4 2.2)

I forgot to add, price is an issue. I looked into the mac books and their screen is soooo small. 13" widescreens are useless imo.

I live in canada, and a 15" macbook pro is 2k, way out of budget

Dont Buy ABS. hardrive failed in 1 year... in 1 year later either the Cpu failed or Motherboard failed.... currently not working because of doubt of what to fix. not a fan of ABS

chooes a laptop based on programs you want and need to run apple is really nice but hard to run certain programs on it

there's plenty of software for Mac's. more than enough for what you'd need at a uni.
plus, you can run Windows software on it using an emulator

Boot Camp does not run windows in emulation. It allows you to install and natively run windows on a separate partition. Parallels desktop runs windows in virtualization simultaneously with
OS X. While this is not 100% efficient, it is better than emulation software such as virtual pc. The only downside to parallels is that it does not yet support 3D accelerated graphics.
