Default Good Build? Any Suggestions?

I actually have no leeway as far as the cpu and mobo, im getting them at a smoking price through intel because of their retail edge program, q6600 mobo and home premium for 219. Edit: the motherboard is the DG33TL

But here it is so far,

Transcend JETRAM 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model JM2GDDR2-8K - Retail

SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black PATA Model SH-S202G - OEM

Any suggestions to change any of these parts for?

Would Either of those cards work with that board? I think I might go with the 8600gt, is the ATI a lot better?

I'd like to be able to play some newer games with DX10 capabilities, something that would still be good for like orange box if i got it

Yup. Those video cards will work with the board. If you would like the DX10, then the 8600GT can do the trick, although it's not a GREAT card. It's alright. I might suggest getting the GTS instead, but if you're on a budget, then there shouldn't be anything wrong with the GT.

DX10 is pretty expensive...
Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100213 Radeon HD 2900GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - OEM
cheapest DX10 with decent performance

Pretty much the best card with the best price/performance ratio.

Sure it is. Not only does it make almost everything prettier, soon games will require dx10.
