Default First time build help

Hi

I am looking to build a new computer very soon. I have a monitor and all other peripherals and an OS(winxp). My budget is only about $650 shipped, but I would like to get as good a gaming comp as I can get. And since the current computer I have can barely play WOW on low settings and 800x600 res with maybe 20fps… well anything will be an improvement .

I want something I can upgrade easily, and in 6-8 months I can put a nice video card in there and or change the cpu.

It would also help to know if I need to buy fans or extra cooling for certain parts. Or any other items, like thermal paste? I don’t know what it is but I probably need it, hehe

I am just now trying to learn all this stuff since I haven’t looked at comp hardware in about 6-7 years. Plus I have never tried to build one (little nervous about that too).

Ok I have rambled on too much… sorry. I must also add that all of these parts MUST come from zipzoomfly.com.

Hey Vith99

Why must it come from zipzoomfly.com? Some of their items are a little more than newegg's prices, and it's just the same as adding shipping to newegg's. Newegg's service is also much better. Shipping is faster as well.

Anyway, here is a list I came up with:

Case - Rosewill R5604-TBK or Cooler Master Centurion 534 or Your choice...
Motherboard - Biostar TForce TF7025
CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Brisbane 2.1GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache
RAM - 2 x 1GB G. Skill DDR2-800 NQs
Graphic Card - PNY 7900GS 256MB
Power Supply - Rosewill RP550 550W
Hard Drive - Western Digital Caviar SE 160GB
Optical Drive - Sony NEC Optiarc DVD Burner
Optional Aftermarket HSF - Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 64

Should be under $500, without shipping.

Go with b1g's build, always the best. Also, Newegg is better than Zipzoomfly.

I was able to find most of those parts b1gapl listed. However the PSU and Vid Card are not on there... I really don't know anything about PSU's otherwise i would pick one myself . But could still use help finding one on Zipzoomfly.

Also their Vid card selection (at least for my budget range) is limited. Wondering if i should just pick up a decent 7600gt for now. opinions?

any help for this noob would be great . Thanks

Looks nice. Would you consider saving money, and going for a lower model of the X2? Such as the X2 3800+? You can just overclock it, past the 4600+.

And I would suggest this power supply instead:
Antec TruePower TRIO 550 550W Power Supply at ZipZoomfly
