Default Is it Faster?

I am planning to upgrade my PC.

Currently I have: 3.2 Ghz HT 800 FSB, 865PE Chipset CPU.

I am planning an upgrade to: AMD Athlon 4800+ X2 Dual Core 939 Chipset CPU.

Will I make sugnificant jump in speed or the differance is not that great?

At this point I cannot afford the new Intel CPU, so this upgrade will have to do for now.

I will be using it for video rendering.

Thanks

You might want to do a search about the Conroe in the forums. I have read that the prices are going to be very nice, so you might be able to afford one of those, since your going to have to get a whole new system anyway if you went S939, might as well take a look at the Conroe at least... That's if you want INTEL...

Doesn't the range of the Conroes go for $150-999? Suppafreak you should be able to afford one of them.

I just heard about Conroe's a week ago, tells you how current I am, and thought they are going to be expensive. However, after reading little more, I think I will be able to get E6600 for about same price as AMD 4800+. There are not that many MOBOs available yet. I guess I have to wait till sometimes in August.

A very significant jump.

Going from a 32-bit 3.2 to a 64-bit 4800+ (equal to or better than a 4.8 P4) will be like going from a Yugo to a Porsche. The C2D's will have the same sort of difference to your 3.2 P4.

Not really ... The Marketing Scheme AMD used with the XY00+ = X.Yghz only applies to the Athlon 64 line. I believe the x2 4800+ is the equivalent of an Intel Pentium D 4.0ghz (which they don't even make, 3.73ghz is their fastest, but cost 2x as much as the x2 4800+)
