Default DVI vs Analog?

I just recently purchased a new Samsung LCD and am very happy with it but it did not come with a DVI cable. I'm using a 7900GT video card and was wondering how much of a difference would it make to buy a DVI cable, and also, how much should I be spending on it? It was $60 US at Best Buy so I passed.

DVI isn't necessary...you won't even notice the difference between DVI and analog.

well, it is better to keep the connection all digital... your computer is digital.. and so its your LCD display.. so you'd be going digital -> analog -> digital.. its better to keep it all digital.. and cabels aren't that expensive..

The only thing DVI has on VGA is 2560x1600, other than that, it won't make a difference.

Nah, and even if he did notice a difference, I doubt it will be worth $60.

I bought my dvi cable from Newegg for under $15 and there was an improvement in how sharp the picture on my Samsung 19" lcd looked. There's huge markup on these things retail, only worth it to buy online. I'll link in a second.

edit: Either of these, I own the Link Depot one myself but they should both be just fine.

I have compared the exact same monitor one on VGA one on DVI, never noticed a single bit of difference myself.

Thank you all for your feedback. Very helpful. I bought a DVI cable retail just to see if it was worth ordering and I didn't see a difference. MAYBE a tiny bit on text clarity, but I can't even say for sure. Good to know you can buy the cables online for $10 though, I paid $55 retail for this thing and it's going back! I just checked to be sure I could return it before buying.

Maybe the improvement depends on the LCD model you have as well.
