Default Crossfire two different ATIs?

Is that possible? my 4830 is on back-order right now and I plan to buy another card later on when I have more cash and would like to crossfire. I hear that two 4830s can turn out great, but when I have enough cash laying around I am sure prices will drop and drop allowing me to purchase another card- a 4870.

I believe you can crossfire two different cards as long as they are in the same family

like 48XX's but not a 48XX and a XXXX

I know that 4830 and 4850 in crossfire perform about the same as 4850s in crossfire. But 4830 and 4870 sounds like an abomination.

I would just CF another 4830. It works with the others but it's not ideal and does not work properly a lot of the time.
