The X2 3800 i would say was better. this will last you longer too because of games that will use dual core.

For games right now, the single core would be better, as MOST games haven't yet been optimised to run on Dual core. You can still go dual core though, as it holds much potentail for the same reason.... games haven't yet been optimized for it.

Gaming should be faster on the dual core you set all processes to one core and the game to the other. Great performance there.

As for installing XP I think the factor depends more on the RAM but the 3800+ is faster overall. And as mentioned above besides the superior multi tasking dual core's performance in games will soar in the near future.
