Default can my computer take other types of ram besides pc-2700?

I have an old Sony VAIO desktop PCV-rs420 and it uses the PC-2700 Ram

I was wondering if my computer supports other type of ram other than that. How exactly can i tell the compatibility of my computer with hardware?

tahnks.

p.s. i'm upgrading this becuase it only has 512mb of ram and by doubling it, it can be useful for decent tasks and multitasking

Always go to crucial.com. They have almost every computer you can think of and the RAM compatibility.

I checked for you, and it looks like it only supports pc2700. The weird thing, each slot can hold up to 1gb, but you can only have 2gb maximum. So it looks like you're stuck either getting 2 1gb sticks or 3 more 512 sticks.

If you just want to double your RAM, then grab this stick:

Newegg.com - Kingston ValueRAM 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 333 (PC 2700) Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

under 20 bucks.

No not really, the worst that can happen is if the computer won't boot into windows.
