Default Bypassing 137gb Barrier

I have an older computer that I hoped to turn into a DVR. Before I get a nice-sized hard drive for it, is there a way to tell if it will support large hard drives (>137gb)? Or, can I just partition a large hard drive into several 120gb partitions?

Specs:
Intel Pentium 3 @ 866mhz
Windows 2000
40+120gb IDE HDD
256mb RAM
