Default Buying a new laptop

I need a new laptop, so do you guys have any suggestions?

Budget: $1,000-1,400 CAD MAX: $1,500 CAD ($880-$1,200 USD, MAX: $1300)

I'm willing to wait for the new Core 2 Duo, and actually would prefer a notebook with that processor.

It has to look nice

Preferably a Japanese or Taiwanese brand, but American brands are also tolerable.

So what is the best laptop that I could get for that budget?

Thanks

The laptop version of Core 2 Duo is not core duo, it is called Merom. Both "Merom" (mobile), and "Conroe" (desktop) are being released on july 27th.

I'll be using it on the go aalott. its for university, so they'll be alot of word processing, spreadsheeting, charting, etc.

Also, music and videos are a must...good music and graphics card.

the macbook is too expensive for what its really worth. its just a looker.
