Default Buyiing More Ram

I'm thinking of buying some more ram for my laptop, and i have some questions:

- Do i need to have the same type of ram as my current 512mb
- If so how do i find out my current make of ram
- How should i go about putting the new ram

I've never bought ram, or even upgraded my laptop before, so all info is appreciated =)

1. Same type, but not necessarily the same brand.
2. http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz
3. Google should have some pointers for your model.
