My old computer is just old. I done revamping it. Time for a new one. My question is this. I'm a computer noob. I don't know much but I know a little. I put in a new power source and graphics card in my old one. I don't know how much knowledge it takes to build a whole new computer with all new parts compare to a power source and graphics card. What would be a wiser way to go? Build my own or buy a Dell XPS 710 H2C? Money does not matter. I want an ultimate gaming rig. Would it be hard to build on my own with the limited knowledge that I have?

These are the computer parts that i have in mind if I build my own. Feel free to remodify my list if you think I can build my own computer on my own.

Intel® CoreTM 2 Extreme QX6700 quad-core processor

What would u recommend for RAM 2 or 4GB, and what kind of ram and who?

am I missing anything else? Do I need cables for this? Should I water cool this or not? I don't know how to overclock and probably won't. So would it be wise to stick with fans to cool this off or use a water cooling system?

Any other suggestions or stick with the Dell XPS 710 H2C.

what is your budget? cause most of you have right now is overkill.

cables and all that will come with the parts, so now worries there. water cool? I'd say no for now uintil you get a better grasp of what your doing. I'm assuming from this that you want a whole system? machine, speakers, kb, mouse, monitor?

6000 or less. I'm not worried about accessories like speakers, kb, mouse etc. worried about the heat issue with the parts i've mention. will fans only do justice to this system?

Some high CFM low noise ones are Delta, just google their Site.

Something like that, dunnue was just a quick link build, you can always get a bigger screen. Xp Pro of course. (Id wait for VISTA to be extensivly patched before trying it)


If you want to do RAID at all Get 3 Drives of whatever size you wish and do RAID 5. Make sure mobo you buy supports it.
Its also a good idea not to spend all of that 6 Grand. So you can build another computer a few years from now.

i know a little about building from gaming magazines. I feel comfortable building my own, i was worried about the cooling part. I just wanna make sure the fans are adequate enough. but you reassured me. any good websites for building? thanks for info

I and others listed the parts. As I did above. all you have to do is order them, you can then come to us if you have any problems building it.

man, I wish my budget was that high. Just for some reassurrence, building it is pretty straight forward. Almost everything is labled, and it's almost impossible to plug something in the wrong way(special unidirectional shapes on the plugs :beard: ) and if you know what the parts are already, you should do fine
