|  am2 vs am2+ cooler mount
do both of these sockets use the same mount.
i will be getting rid of my am2 board and replacing it with am2+.
was wondering if i would need to buy a new cooler.
i googled this, and somebody said they use the same mount.
just wanted to make sure before making any purchaces.
(i threw out all my unused mounting brackets for my cooler) |

AM2+ AM2 boards are exactly the same. Some just have support for K10 chips and higher TDP chips as well.

It'll work regardless.. its more of an issue if its a good enough cooler for a Quad..

Yeah current Phenoms can get pretty hot. Overclocking requires quite a bit of a voltage increase as well. Which is why the only decent over clocks with Phenoms are usually with water cooling.

thx guys, saved me a few bucks.
ill wait to get a new cooler when i can afford the 940.
i think my 6400BE runs hotter than the new 7750BE anyways.
i could be wrong tho.

Probably..
because the 7750BE runs on the same architecture as the Phenom II so it'll run cooler than a 6400

thanks for the help so far, but i have one last question
will this board Newegg.com - ASUS M3N72-D AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards
work for both the 7750 and the 940 (trying to find a board for the 940 that can also run a 7750)
that price on that board is the absolute max i can spend.
budget of 330,
vista basic (Lol) 90 bucks
7750 75 bucks
board 130 bucks
+ tax and shipping
this comes out to $326 @ newegg. | |

It should... They released BIOS for most of their AM2 boards to make them work
