Hi guys, im new here.

Need some feed back on the best 64 bit processor to buy in terms of performance, value for money. Iv already got water cooling and like to over clock but not at too much cost to stability and heat issues.

Im going to get the OCZ Platinum EL Dual Channel Kit 2x512MB and at the momnet have my eye on the San diego 3700+ chip on a DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D SKT939. Already have the GFX card al off other bits of good quality.

3700+ or Opteron 146/148

Athlon 64 strand would be 3000+ or 3800+ if looking at multicore processors

Opteron strand would be 144 or 165 if looking at multicore processors

The 3700+ and Opteron 146/148 have nowhere near the price/performance ratio that the above listed processors have

Im trying to find some reviews that 3000+ to the 4000+ but cant?

Can you explain how much better a 3800+ is to a 3700+.

I do alot of 3d modling / graphic work , music production ,but just brought a X800XT so like my games too.

the 4000+ is just a waste of money, as you can OC(overclock) the 3700+ to 4000+ speeds.

but i would try to buy a dual core processor if i were you

How do you figure that one out? 3800+ has a higher rated IPC than the 3700+ hence why it has a higer P-rating...clock frequency > cache size plain and simple, especially on AMD64s which use L1 and L2 cache very efficently, which is basically why you see Intels with much more cache than even the cadillac FX processors

Larger cache is a nice feature yes, and it does depend on the specific application and in specific applications the 3700+ will edge out the 3800+ due to the larger cache, but looking at the overall picture at stock speeds, the 3800+ is the faster core, plain and simple

That being said, the 3700+ has a better price/performance ratio than the 3800+, although as I mentioned the 3000+ or Opty 144 has an even better ratio

I did look at the dual core but from what I saw it performed a little under the single cores in single applications. It came down to not best for the gamer but for people that do alot of multitasking which I do alot of. However this is a upgrade and my current system seems to do ok at both tasks, on a NF2 mobo and barton 2800+, standard crucial PC3200 memory, 9800XT gfx card.

Now iv going to the X800XT PCIe on a DFI LP mobo and looking at 63 bit 3700+ so its a good upgrade on paper. I havent got neither the mobo or the new chip yet so looking into it all.

i say 3700+ or if you lean more towards the value end of value vs. performance maybe a 3200+
