Default $600 Dollar Budget for a PC!

I'm planning to build my computer just for listening to music, web surfing, watching dvds, and burning music/dvds.

Just need an average video card.

So this is what I made up so far.

MSI PM8M-V Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - $48.00
Intel Pentium 4 2.4A 533MHz FSB Socket 478 Processor - $120.00
CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM - $81.00
SAPPHIRE Radeon 9600 ATLANTIS RADEON 256 mb- $68.00
Diamond XtremeSound XS71 Sound Card - $29.00
LITE-ON Black 16X DVD-ROM 52X CD-R 32X CD-RW 52X CD-ROM - $27.99
Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - $63.00

Now I just need a case. But I have no idea what a good case is. I'd like it to have some fans and a built in power supply if it is possible.

This is my first time building a computer so I'm not going all out. I'm thinking this as a training project.

Thanks guys.

P.S.
You can post some of your own set-ups too that would match my budget.

Well, if you like style and quality, get a Xion II black pearl case. It's like 70$, but there's lights and 2 120 mm fans, 1 80 mm fan, and a 450 watt power supply. Great for what you're going for

Change the CPU/motherboard.

AMD Athlon 64 2800+ s754 $114
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103485

MSI K8T Neo-V Socket 754 $49
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130498

Eliminate the sound card. You're not going to see much of a performance increase from a $29 sound card.

Then you can upgrade your video card to a Sapphire X700 AGP 4x/8x

yeah i'd do what ryan says, and dump the sound card. otherwise looks like a good computer for what you need. It doesn't look like your burner burns dvds though, only reads them.

yeah, I'm totally not sure why you recommended the 7300GS in all of those builds. That thing has proven to suck.

Well yeah, if you're gonna pay $100 for a 7300GS you might as well get a 6600gt for $115 after rebate @ newegg.com

I'd reccomend a Socket 939 CPU, no matter what you do. Socket 754 is at the end of it's lifetime. I do agree that the 7300GS isn't worth it's price, so stick with a 6200 or 6600 series card. You really don't need a 6600GT, as they are entry level cards for great gaming, a 6200 card would suffice, just make sure it's PCI-e so if you want to game and/or upgrade later, it's easy.
