I recently installed a Western Digital hard drive into a 1-2 year old HP desktop.
When installing an older version of Wiondows XP it will only show one partition of 128gb.
If I go ahead and finish installing XP, then go into disk manager I can not change the partition size or see any unused space.
The drive only displays as 128gb.
During POST it displays the drive as the 500gb and when I go into setup it will show it as a 500gb, so I assume it is being recognized to a certain extent.
I'm sure I am overlooking the obvious so am asking for help.

You need to update to service pack 2 for it to recognize the full drive size. Er i misread that. Do a google search for "slipstream xp service pack 2".

I believe you'll have to reinstall Windows with SP2 or higher.
