Default $1300? good deal?

Hello all-

I'm new to this computer nonsense.... anyway, I have a nice computer at work, then I go home and I don't even get on it because its slooooww... so I want to buy a new one for home.... I want something that won't be outdated in a year... soo, next step, I go down to the local computer store, where they build service, etc.. (they have been there for almost 20 years so they are good.)

anyways, for $1300 they told me I could get this.

Tower Case (didn't ask what brand or anything, just something simple)
AMD 64 X2 4600+ w/ compatible Motherboard
2 GB ram
19" NEC LCD
ATI Radeon 1300
250 GB SATA HD
DVD-ROM and DVD+/-RW
TV tuner
XP media center edition

I'm not sure on the model numbers, but I trust them to be good parts, otherwise these guys wouldn't still be in business....

Anyway, good deal or not?

BTW.. this is fully assembled ready to go.

thanks,

Alex

I wouldn't say thats a good deal. Kind of a rip-off. You can make a nice Core 2 Duo build with that money. What socket is the CPU?

Default

AMD 64 X2 4600+ w/ compatible Motherboard = $280(processor) $100-$150 (MOBO)
2 GB ram = $275 (totally depending on what brand)
19" NEC LCD = $300 (totally depending on which one)
ATI Radeon 1300 = $80 (average)
250 GB SATA HD = $80
DVD-ROM and DVD+/-RW = $40
TV tuner
XP media center edition =$100

all of this together = $1280

these are all newegg prices, but if u can get specifics on names and brands, becasue theres huge price differences in alot of these things especially in memory and LCD's, i can give u a better price on parts.

the guy above me is right though, go Core 2 Duo. Its killing AMD on preformance charts right now
