What could have caused this?

Hey eveyrone. I'm trying to figure out what would cause this. My buddys' computer got the windows xp theme deleted, the drivers for the sound card are gone. Mcafee didn't pick up anything, but lavasoft adaware picked up some things: 404search, midaddle, overpro, ibis toolbar, and visicom media which effected the registry values. I tried reinstalling the sound card drivers and it seemed like it installed them and everything and nothing works. Also when you go into the device manager, absolutely NOTHING shows up. So then I tried installing partition magic to preserve the documents which are needed and it won't even let me install that. Has anyone has anything similiar happen? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Restart to safe mode:

Because XP will not always show you hidden files and folders by default, Go to Start > Search and under "More advanced search options". Show Hidden Files and Folders
Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Next click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now find and delete these files:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mmtask.exe

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp%in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Then go to Add/Remove programs:

Uninstall Incredimail (see the one about clot factor) MusicMatch is acting as a server and sends info about your personal preferences back to it's web site. Do you really want that info sent back? I would suggest uninstalling it as well.

Remove via Start -> Settings -> Add/Remove Programs/

Reboot

Empty the Recycle Bin
