Virus? Maybe Not

I am typically pretty good with my pc, but am by no means an expert.

My pc usage is at 100% during normal operation, and cannot get this usage to decrease by shutting down any processes in task manager. I scanned for viruses (updated software) as well as all spyware from multiple services. The usage does fluctuate very slightly, but only down to say 80% for a split second.

When entering in safe-mode the usage goes down to 0% (normal) and I can use internet, etc.

Cant figure out what the deal is with my pc...usually i can detect spyware, viruses, etc...but this has me stumped

Im running windows xp on an amd 2.0 from a few years ago. 2 gb of ram...let me know if any other information would be helpful. I honestly dont even know what else to do other than just try and restore windows and then reformat and restore (which im not too eager to do).

Also if it helps, my computer works fine in safe mode...and also in regular mode if i disable the wireless...

I ran all of the cleanup files and spyware, etc....before i ran hijack this....as well as trying to debug on my own (clearly to no avail)

hmm, pc still runs at 100% usage only when the wireless card is turned on.

are there some wireless settings i should be messing with on my computer?

i stopped 'wireless zero configuration' from running because i have a d-link card and their software handles my card (note, ive also tried to run it through windows w/out the software, either way is still slow)

are there any other wireless configurations which could be causing this?

task manager...there are no increases from any other processes (from what i can tell).

if i disable my wireless card computer runs fine. it also runs fine in safemode with networking.

i went through and tried to end processes one at a time to try and figure out which one was the problem, but i couldnt figure it out.

i should note that i never thought it was a virus or spyware, it just happend when i moved into a new house and have been working off of a new router and cable provider. other computers (wireless included) work fine in the home however.
