| I have Windows xp . Upon opening my computer, half the desktop is covered with internet explorer. I can't shut it because the top right hand corner wit the x cannot be brought into view. I loaded a Mozilla browser and made it the default browser but IE still keeps showing up. |

| You've messed something up. Running to another browser won't solve the problem if you've messed something up.

| Monster Techie | elcoh, you can't get rid of IE...it's built into the operating system. Bill Gates and his crowd made sure of that. What you need to do is follow the advice in this thread: psu limits Once you have done that, post your HiJack Log in this forum: HiJack Logs (analyze) and one of the log readers woill get to it. You just have to be patient because there aren't that many of us. Liz

| You can go to add remove programs.Add Remove windows components and remove internet explorer there it is still in the system but it will shut it down.Befor you do that go into the internet options/programs and take the click out to check to see wether it is the default browser. If you get rid of internet explorer you wont be able to use windows update anymore.so you could just uninstall IE and reinstall IE to see if it fixes your problem and uncheck the default box and use it for updating.
