[Trifid]

Trojan was found in a dodgy copy of Nero so said to remove all Nero ones but there might be others? I don't like the look of Khost either but not experienced with Hijackthis.

I do not see any infections in there. If you are still unsure we can go further. But please next time. Run HiJak This 2.0.2 which is the most up to date version.

NOD32 has completed a scan and quarantined many affected files (ran 2, second didn't find anything).

but has come up with:
"hmmm i just got very weird pop up in firefox.. 'performance optimizer' or some *censored*."

But apart from that the problems have gone away. Getting him to run spybot and adaware to be safe.

Have him do this and post the log:

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
Read first: "How to download and use ComboFix"
If you downloaded ComboFix previously, delete that version and download it again as the tool is frequently updated!

• Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".

• Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
• When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
