iPhone texting alternative

I have an iPhone and I love it. In fact I'm usingit to post this thread. But I don't want to pay the extra money for unlimited text. I was wondering if there is any free service that allows me to text via the Internet and more importantly allows me to recieve texts via email or somewhere online that allows me to sendand recieve free.

Use a online service like Meebo.

That's what I'm using for instant messaging... The problem is how to get around SMS.

You wont be able to get around it. There is no way that i know of currently to get around SMS on phones.
