Default How small can a phone be?

If there are any cell phone experts here:

How small could you make a phone? If you just wanted to make phone calls and nothing else? Most phones have internal antennas now, how big are they? And how much space would you need to have a phonebook that could hold about 500 names and numbers?

And possibly bluetooth capability?

Also, don't worry about the battery.

I just have an idea for an invention that I got from my job, and I was wondering how small you can go right now.

you can buy pretty **** small ones (I'm not an expert) prob the smallest you could buy would be 2.5inches tall (when the phone is closed., 1.5 inches wide, 1/3 inch thick... but they would be really expensive.

Well, it can get really small. The only limit is the size of the display, the battery, and the antenna or communication strength. Memory can now be those small chips but the screens are still 1-2mm thick. It all depends on how small we can make the battery.

Well, my idea has no display.....and the battery would not be a traditional cell phone battery.

And it would be all voice dialing so no need for a number pad.

The idea is to wear something almost weightless and invisible, because I think what we have now with the bluetooth headsets looks stupid.....plus in my experience with bluetooth the quality sucks.

Eventually I think our phones will be a small implant inserted into the ear. That is probably as small as it gets. As far as the cell phones we have now the smallest I have seen is about as small as a deck of cards.

I have seen some pretty small ones myself. I hate how I always lose mine because it is to small.

Good. People who walk around with bluetooth headsets 14 hours a day make me want to punch them in the ear. But as said earlier, the only real limiting factor to a phone is the size of the battery and keypad. Going too small makes it hard to use.

IF you go with all voice dialing it will actually make it larger. As you will need the software for voice recognition and other such things. Plus eliminating the keypad. Not a good idea. What about if another person wanted to use the phone? Voice recognition is for 1 person per phone.

Going to small will get you no where. People wont buy it cuse they will lose it like they lose their car keys.
