How The iPhone Is Blowing Everyone Else Away (In Charts)
by Erick Schonfeld on October 21, 2009
Yesterday at the Web 2.0 Summit, Morgan Stanley Internet analyst Mary Meeker did her annual data dump slide presentation, this year focusing on the growth prospects of the mobile Web. As usual, there were 3 or 4 slides that really captured the trends she was talking about, particularly the ones around iPhone adoption and how that phone in particular is catapulting mobile Web usage into the mainstream.
You can see her full slide show below (all 68 of them), but let me pull out the three iPhone slides that helps put its growth into perspective. The first one above shows the growth of data traffic on AT&T’s mobile network. It is 50 times higher than it was just three years ago. I added two arrows to show when the first iPhone launched in June, 2007 and the iPhone 3G in July 2008.
| I find it funny they dont show or discuss how many units were sold overall. instead they show at&t now has 50x more data traffic. They say its the fastest growing product (evaluating sales in first 10 quarters). Ok, so they were successful by being an early adopter. They compare the sales not to other phones but to gaming consoles?!?!? confusing.
How does the iphone stack up against the pre?
i read in consumer reports iphone is the top rated smartphone.

| Re: How The iPhone Is Blowing Everyone Else Away (In Charts) Personally, I think the Pre is a bit of garbage compared to the iPhone. But that's just my personal take on it.

| Re: How The iPhone Is Blowing Everyone Else Away (In Charts) Reason being is that Windows Mobile just does not work for smart phones.
I have had experiences with 4 Windows Mobile iPhones in the last few years, and all of them have not been good.

| Re: How The iPhone Is Blowing Everyone Else Away (In Charts) I have yet to see a phone come close to the iphone's level of performance and features. I'm waiting to see what this Android google phone is all about.
Every time I hear there is a new iphone killer out I go into the store and check the phone out. I walk away shaking my head at the idea it was a killer.
...and I'm a PC guy

This new android phone looks promising, but with all the TV ads and hype, I'm afraid it will be a letdown. It's aiming to be an iPhone killer in all the ads, and it's actually kind of annoying...
Apple has it's problems, but the iPhone is still a force to be reckoned with, apple or not.

...and I'm a PC guy | I haven't seen a detailed review of it but the Nokia n900 has the potential to easily beat the iphone. It has equal hardware, full multitasking support, a excelent Debian based OS (Maemo), and allows open develtopment. |
