FM Transmitter

Alright, this isnt exactly wireless technology, but here goes anyway.
I have a standart iRock brand FM transmitter for playing music through your car stereo using the station 88.7. Before it only transmitter about 8 feet, and I decided to try to make it go further. I alligator clipped a shortwave radio antenna to the existing one wich I brought out of the case and strung it about my room. It worked OK and now it goes into my front yard, but some places of my house are just static. Any ideas on how to boost the strength?
