Nvidia Plans GeForce GTX 275 Against Radeon HD 4890

VR-Zone learned about a suprise counterattack from Nvidia against the Radeon HD 4890 RV790 card where both camps' offerings are slated for launch on April 6th. Nvidia has briefed their partners only very recently and details have been pretty vague so far. However, it seems Nvidia is confident that this card will be able to compete, if not, wins its competitor's offering.

CJ told us that GeForce GTX 275 is gunning for US$229-$279 price range which competes directly against the Radeon HD 4890 card at similar price point. One possible configuration of the card could be 216 SPs, 512-bit memory interface and higher clocks than GTX 260. Another less possible config could be 240 SPs with 448-bit memory interface.

So it's what the 285 is to the 280? Then why couldn't they have just called it the 265?! *cries*

Unless it's the latter 240SP config, then 275 would make more sense.

Well I think the 4890 will be in the 180 - 200 range, since the HD 4870 which is a bit slower than the 4890 is down to like 150.

nVidia has to do something better than that to save themselves...

HD 4870 1GB with its newest drivers now beats the GTX 260 and Core 216 in most games

I don't think Nvidia needs saving. They just need to develop a smaller GPU.
G200 can't compete against RV770 in a price war without it losing them money.

Well, they need to do something, that's for sure. The GTS 250 wasn't all that great of an idea, the only upside is it's a cheaper than the card it's rebranding...
