GT200, GT206, GT212 are the names of the cores, such as G80 and G92.

The model names are still GTX 2XX.

so far it looks like it's not much better than the 4870, in fact the 4870 beats it in most situations as soon as you enable AA.

If it costs a lot less than a 4870 then it's good, but otherwise what is the point of this card.

2 frames higher on Crysis than the HD 4870, and it's coming out how many months later? And by that time, the HD 4870 will be way cheaper, so I think Nvidia might be wasting time with this.

Brand preference, folding, warranty etc.

Some ppl look at just overall game performance, others take other factors into play when getting a gpu.

Just like when buying cars, your friend may have a faster car which costs less, but you prefer the car that you bought because its better for you. Just cause the 4870 is a bit faster doesnt mean the GTX 260 is slow, and itll still max all games.

i agree for me just the fact theres a life tiem warranty that will cover ocing, cooler changing, and tp changing to me warrants teh purchase of an nvidia card.

most other companies have at least 3 year warranties, more like 5 year.....seriously that's plenty. I won't keep a card longer than 6 months as thats about the time between gen releases.

Question Re: Nvidia GT206 and GT212

Hey I was thinking of buying the GT212 when they come out in 2009 (I wish it were 2008 Q4). The thing is I want to buy a system now (November 08) with Nehalem, tri-channel ddr3 and the lot. So the problem is I don't know if I should buy a cheap card now and wait or get a good config. now and then wait for an even further release after the gt212... So should I get a 9800 sli w/hydra, gtx260-212core tri sli or gtx 280 tri sli or 4870X2 crossfire... hmmm. The thing I know is that gtx280 tri sli is quite a waste and not much performance especially vs the gt 212 which is what I ultimately would like.. Its starting to sound that 4870X2 crossfire or gtx260-212 is more appealing and then in 2009 get the gt212....
