Default Intel Core i7 listings show up on NewEgg to tease you, then split

Quote:
Listings for Intel's new Core i7 processors popped up on NewEgg for a couple hours yesterday before getting pulled back into the pre-launch ether -- a cruel tease to desktop PC hardware aficionados counting down the nanoseconds till that red letter day, November 17th. We knew it wouldn't last, but we're glad of the error, 'cause now we've seen pricing info which should reflect what we'll be paying next week. The 2.66GHz 920 was listed at $319.99, the 2.93GHz 940 at $599.99, and the 3.2GHz Extreme 965 at $1,069. Benchmarks have shown even the 920 besting top-of-the-line Core 2 Quads, so the entry point is alluring, but if you're a True Gearhead we expect you'll embezzle a grand to afford the Extreme chip.

OMG that sucks...i know $20 isn't much but i was really hoping it would only be $300 intel said it's only $284 so these places are going to be making some killer profits off of these chips

still can't wait for launch, hopefully more boards and heatsinks will come onto the market

Use stock for a little bit.. because AP4LFTN got like a 4.2ghz OC and de-throned Nosboost

MSI X58 Platinum has a nice price for a x58 motherboard, 2x PCI-E 2.0, and 8 SATA ports....Perhaps I should get a board with 10 SATA ports

I was able to make a build with i920 for $1200
Core i7 920
MSI X58 Platinum
3GB Corsair DDR3-1333
ASUS HD 4870 512MB
Corsair 750TX
Western Digital 640GB
Antec 300

That's not too shabby considering mine was almost $1100 for CPU/MOBO/RAM

CyberPowerPC has a Intel Core i7 920 system for $800.

EDIT: If you downgrade, it would be $700.

Weaksauce PSU/GPU though, but not that bad if you're willing to upgrade the PSU/GPU, maybe the case too. the RAM could be the generic ones w/o heatspreaders
