WWait wait wait. So the 8 series was rebranded as 9 series... which is going to be rebranded as the GT series? What is with this company?

Well they renamed 3 of the 8 series to 9 series.. (8400, 8300, 8800gs)

But ya.. we've already discussed how outrageous the renaming is

I don't necessarily mind, but what annoys me is that they sucker unsuspecting people into potentially buying the same card twice... or at least charging more for the same card.

Nice...more renaming.

well, at least it looks like they will be sticking with the new naming scheme for awhile.

Good thing is most people will do the research and find out exactly what they are buying.

Wait i just noticed that the cores are changing to 40nm....so i guess that does make sense, a 40nm version of the 8800GT/9800GT would be pretty cool.

Don't mean to start another argument, but I would say that generally most PC users wont do the research and find out what they are buying. People active on this forum represent the minority of PC users.

People who know the difference between a GTX 280 and a 8400 GS are also a minority of PC Users.

While those of us want best bang for buck search for benchmarks.

The majority of people also don't buy video cards. They buy a POS computer at Best Buy and then sell it for $125 in the classified ads in 3 years and then buy another one from Best Buy.

my sister does that.

paid 3 grand for a xps (it does have a nice chip in it QX9650)
but boy does dell put **** RAM in their desktops, she still only gets 5.6 in vista index. due to memory score.

so for 3k

she has this system:
pos intel mobo
pos 4gb dell ram
9800gt
QX9650
huge hard drive with low cache
vista buisness
dell overclock (3.7GHz)

i told her i could have gotten her the parts for simular performance for 1/3 of the price.

she likes the warranty tho  she said.

edit:
dell really gets ppl with their "big" numbers they show in the spec's.
its a wonder why they never say what mobo they use.
alot of ppl will buy a pc soley based on ram size or hard drive size. its sad.
