Another interesting capability is support of what's called a mezzanine card where four more dual core processors can be added along with 16 more DIMM slots for 32 more gigabytes of RAM. Imagine that -- 64 GB of RAM and 8 dual core processors.

ohhhh boy, Thought I would never say it.

That is way too much horse power!!!

*friend slaps back of head*

Ohh my god. You would break you neck tryin to keep up with it. Ouch, I have whiplash now.

Still, the danger does not outweigh the joy it would bring, so I think Boxx computers can just ship one to me, ya know, prototyping and testing

64GB of RAM? I don't get it. How is that even possible? Can someone fill me up on this? Thanks.

Now someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it has to do with your BIOS support and how many banks you have on your motherboard. The most I've seen on any one stick is 1 GB, but we can't rule out the possibility of it being proprietery.

Understandable. But still, we're talking about 64GB, which is a major step up. Given that something proprietary would have 2/4/... GB per stick, still would need a **** of a lot of banks for it to add up to be 64GB. There's got to be more to it than that. Or please excuse my blabing if this was infact correct.

actually it's to do with the memory bus of the CPU and the memory controller. if you have a 32-bit system the most it will be possible to support is 4GB.

but this is a 64 bit server

buy the way a 4gb stick of registered generic ram costs about $3000 about $4000 for brandname.

4 sticks of ram x 16 ram slots = 64gb

$3000 x 16 = $48000 thats alot of cash

ok, so......what's the max on a 64 bit system? My motherboard only supports 2 Gb, but it was an early version(granted, it's not true 64 bit, AMD Athlon 64, but still ) .

Couldn't we just upgrade the memory controller, or is that embedded in the CPU???

Still, Im seeing a lot of applications for this, mostly math and graphic heavy apps, but still, I give it 5 to 7 years before something like that is standard in homes, what with IBM's advancement and all.
