| Re: ATI HD4870 suffering from premature deaths No it's not true. The issue was with GPU-Z. BIOS files are normally 64kb but apparently gDDR5 requires some additional instructions so the 4870 bios is 128kb in length. This means people were only dumping 1/2 their bioses, so when they edited them and tried to flash it was a bad flash. Then some of them claimed they didn't do anything and blamed it on ATI...
