Default 45nm AMD Processor for AM3 only

Quote:
It was considered that the first 45 nm AMD processors will be released under socket AM2+, which support DDR-2 memory and have a complete compatibility with the existing motherboards. Such processors had to appear in the fourth quarter 2008, and only in first half of 2009 AMD will translate the 45 nm processors to socket AM3, which support DDR-2 and DDR- 3. According to the compatibility list table , socket AM3 processors are capable to work in socket AM2 or Socket AM2+ motherboard , ensuring support to DDR-2. However, socket AM3 motherboard can support only processors with the analogous design concept and DDR3 memory.

Associates stated that AMD changed its plans with respect to socket AM3 . Now 45 nm processors will obtain only socket AM3 , AND the 45 nm processors versions for socket AM2+ will not be released . The first 45 nm and socket AM3 platform representatives will become the four core processor deneb, which will be released in the fourth quarter of the present year. They will operate at frequencies from 2.4 to 2.8 GHz, cache volume in the second level will be equal to 4 X 512 KB, and cache in the third level will be increased up to 6 mb.

I think this is not good news for AMD people, because you will need a new mobo for the upcoming processors from AMD.

Definitely not great for those who have bought AM2+ boards, but not many have due to Intel's C2 lines. Switching sockets now while their market is down is probably the best time to do it, though.

Yes, almost everyone here know that intel will change the socket when their upcoming processor (Nehalem) comes out

I hope when these come out, they are on par with intels current processors at the time. Ive always been loyal to amd, they are always cheaper, but if they would start putting out some expensive processors that are comparable with intels, id want to stick with them. Well see.

Eh, I'm ok with that, but lets hope they are better than Intel's 45nm's though
