Default Your Tech Forums experience

OK as of the last 24 hours in the longest thread there was a lovely page or two about peoples experience with TF. So I thought it would be a nice idea to have all the experiences in one thread to look back on in years to come.

So I ask all members you can or care to to post your experiences or memories of tech forums.

Saxon.

Default Re: Your Tech Forums experiance.

Let me be the first to impart a speech here.

When i first signed up for Tech-Forums it was only cause i was getting back into PC's after a small leave. Basically i was in a bad spot in my life and i just started to get back on my feet. But i wasnt consistant. I signed up and helped out in the Windows area. (Shocking i know)

Then i moved in with the GF at the time to a new place and we lost internet for a year. Then i got it back after a long drawn out debate with the ISP. I stopped by and answered a few questions here and there. But i still wasnt active.

I managed to get up to over 4,000 posts in teh Windows area and had made a small name for myself here and a few other places. But i was still concentrated at the other smaller sites. I still wasnt regular here. I had a bad temper and got upset with some member back then and just stayed away from the site rather than get into trouble.

Then late 2006 and early 2007 i started to be here more often. I was still focused in the Windows area. This along with my other forum work helped me get into the Microsoft MVP program. From there i stayed on here and less on teh smaller forums.

Then in Jan 08 i got invited to join the Mod team. Which was a great honor to be suggested when i didnt volunteer. The rest is history. I became super active through out the forums. I was in just about every area making reports and doing the job that was needed along with still answering questions and being a part of the community that helped me get to where i am with my MVP status.

After a short period of time and a lot of hard work i was promoted to SMod for all the hard work, time and dedication i had put in. To me being a Mod was fine. Being a SMod was icing on the cake. Being able to handle most situations myself made it nicer since i didnt have to involve (Read BOTHER) Trotter, Dave, Larry, Apok, Nitestick, Ste and all ther rest of the SMods at the time. (I know i left out a few names. This wasnt intentional. I think highly of all you guys. I just forgot the rest. My bad...)

I know i have not made many friends with most of my actions. I know that a few people have hard feelings against me cause of somethings that were done. But truth be told i dont hold a grudge. I have no hard feeligns about stuff.

I was doing the job i was asked to do. I will continue to do the job until the day they force me to retire or flat out ban me for my actions. Tech-Forums was the first real big community i got involved in. I have made many great friends here. I cherish that more than the help that i can provide to people. I continue to help cause i can and i care.

I know this is all sappy and sounds rediculous. But this is my experience. This is my side and my feelings on Tech-Forums and how it has affected me. I spend just about all my time on here when i am on the net. I always have a browser open with Tech-Forums loaded when i am at my PC just ready and waiting to answer questions.

So now you know the long story of Makaveli213 (now Mak213). I will continue to serve and do what i can to help out and be a part of the site.

Here goes my bad boy :S

Joined in Feb 2007 under my then internet name nickm926. I was obsessed with filling my system with lights, leds and crap like that until I realised that wasn't important. I have always been a dedicated tech forums member and I don't think I have even 100 posts any where else. I changed my name to Nick becuase nickm926 was pointless in my eyes.

I've met a few people on the way and seem a few go but it's been a good time here and I intend to stay here for a while longer. And one more thing I can absolutely GUARENTE that you will never ever find a tech site which has such a fantastic mix of Technology and Community. Serious guys this site is THE site.

All I can say

I joined back in May 2006 and although I don't post much I always have tech forums open on my PC The only time im not online is when I'm sleeping or at work. tech forums is my homepage so its the first thing I look at when I get up. yeah, I'm a "that guy" person, Like the guy thats always at the party that rarely stands out but is always there.

I joined back when I lived in my Hometown because I wanted to talk and share my intrest about computers, however coming from a town of about 600 people there wasn't really anyone there to talk about it with. So I typed computer forums in google then found this place. I was looking for a rather active forum however not a busy one like [H]ard so I gave this one a shot.

I joined under my current name, never changed it. It came from my paintball gun (cci Phantom) and my old post office box number. I started to fold back in early 2007 and continue today.

Nick is right, out of all the fourms I've joined, this is the only one with such a tightly knit community and its small enough so that you can know mostly everyone. Kind of like my hometown lol...

Congrats on your Super Mod Status, the comunity may matter to you, but leme say this. the comunity wouldnt BE what it is with out the mods we have, Like said earlier we act like a civilized group of people acting the way all of society should be, and thats business and fun at the same time because life just isn't worth living if its all business and no fun. Tech-Forums has kept me sane for now while i go through alot of stuff and i know the people on here will help each out and that just makes me feel great about being a member here.

So to you Chris (Saxon for those who dont know) and all the other mods on Tech Forums I give thee praise.

my begginning interest in pc's was my gaining interest in videography that was inspired by a man named Eric Ogden also known as SilentWulf. His antics and humor brought me into the internet and got me interested in Online PC gaming because he owned a PC with this amazing green backlit PC i just thought that was amazing. I set off on my endeavours to find out about PC building. it was very tough at first. but i came across tech forums and i was like i bet this is the perfect place to get answers, and what do you know its become a part of my life that i will cherish forever. It has lead me to what i want to do in life because once i built my first pc i just KNEW that i'd be working wiht PC's for the rest of my life and i would love it with a passion. and the people here on this comunity have fueled that fire and desire for success. i wasnt doing good in school i wasnt socially active, i didnt have many friends. but i guess talking here in this thread and with the members here have made me that much more mature of a person that is wittier, kinder, and more educated.

this also reminds me of hte time i got into drafting. i thought i was gona hate it at first but i got in here and i was like wow... so this is drafting, i could do this well. and when my teacher gave me praise for my work i was like wow. maybe i should start developing more manners because i like to comunicate on this level with individuals. So i guess its because of drafting 1 that i have started saying yes/no sir/ma 'am to my superiors that i have respect for.

*End of mini speech*
Just restating those for this area here.

i know this ones gona sound kinda cheesy but, I havent really had alot of confidence in myself doing things, ever since i started to learn about computers. i decided yea i wana know more about this so when i got through the whole phase of me wanting to do it, i actually did it and tech forums was here to help me get the job done. getting this build up and off the ground with so much time and money put into it really made me realize why am i so hard on myself. i mean look at what you've done, you've built a sophisticated piece of technology and now you have something to do and people to help you discover more. that kinda happened with guitar. I gave up on it for a long time but i didnt have anyone to help me wiht that so thats probably one of my hardest things i've done in my life, im still kinda down on myself about that though cuz i dont feel like the recognition i get for playing is that great because the people that ask me to play havent been that into Music like i was so when they said i was good i swore up and down that they couldnt be telling the truth.

im hoping when i get this recording stuff going that im getting help on from Crysalis and rican will work out nicely and i can get some of my audio out there to some people that can really review it and evaluate me.

any way you look at it. my life has came back to tech forums in some way shape or form.

Saxon i cant thank you enough for you being there for me when you get on MSN and we chat a little. it really brightens up my day. your a great man Chris and you kept me outa trouble.

Default Re: Your Tech Forums experiance.

I came here with a question about whether I needed a ATX or mATX power supply for my old computer. I got my answer very quickly, as well as some conversation. In the meantime, I looked through the forums and saw people asking questions I could answer, so I jumped in. I helped some and I learned a lot. I became rather adept at whipping together Newegg builds on the fly.

Anyway, I found I liked being here. I was already a member at a couple of other places (non-tech), so I was familiar with how forums worked and all. I kept on coming back, helping people, and trying to set a good example with both my advice and my conduct. I wasn't looking to be a mod during all of this, just a good member.

One of the times Dave put out the call for mods, I responded. I was considered, and then passed over in favor of some others. Dave asked if I would be interested when they had another round and I told him I would. I was chosen in that next round of mods. Looking back, it seems funny that I was passed over the first time, but I realize that it gave me a chance to make sure that I really wanted to do it.

I became a mod back in the "good old days" when spam was very rampant and mods couldn't do anything about it. We deleted what we could and had to post a thread in the mods' area asking a super or an admin to ban them. Needless to say, it was a very busy time.

Becoming a super was a surprise to me. When Dave PMed me about it, I was stunned... and humbled. Obviously I said yes. I had always been very pro Tech-Forums, and I became more so after that. I see Tech-Forums as my personal charge, and I will do whatever I have to do to keep it safe. Sparks flew between me and a few others in this respect, but we made it through.

The upgrade from the old vB version made life much simpler for all the mod team. Around this time Dave started talking to me about moving into a new position with more responsibility. I was agreeable, but we were in no hurry. Eventually, I moved into the Tech-Forums Management position. With Dave's illness keeping him down, I was able to step up and keep things moving smoothly. I have now came full circle and am a full-fledged Administrator here at Tech-Forums.

Tech-Forums is a great place to me. Yeah, it can get routine sometimes, but it is still a cool place to come to. We have a large group of regulars, as well as many new faces. We help one another out with different problems, be they hardware, software, or personal. I see it all as a group of friends, and view everyone here as such.
