Default Where are the females?

I recently read an article in CUSTOMPC magazine by Paul Dutton called "Where are the L33T women?"

So a gender count!

I'm a girl... there was an article about the lack of female geeks in US News And World Report last week.

I was just thinking about that today. What do girls do if they don't like computers, comics, video games? I mean what else is there to do in life. JK.

The computer field is definately male dominated. In my IT class of about 30 at vocational school, there was only one female and she didn't want to be there.

I look at girls into computers as (appearance wise) the buckteeth-big classes, really skinny or really fat girls ... not always, but from what i've seen ... that's usually how it turns out

In the past 5 years of my life I have seen a wide variety of individuels who work in IT, and I would have to agree with Slam on this. I meet 2 women that didn't fit the image and I wish there were more.
Oh, do I ever with there were more...

I hope I'm not offending anyone by saying this, but the reason there aren't more females (good-looking or otherwise) in the IT industry is because of intimidating guys who make us feel like we can't be in the field unless we fit a certain stereotype. It's kind of a catch-22: if you're good-looking and female, then no one takes you seriously or respects you because you're just a piece of ***, but if you're not good-looking, then most men won't respect you because they don't consider you worth their time. I know that's a stereotype of men, but that's how it is with a lot of guys, or at least guys that I know.

(And for the record, I don't have buckteeth or glasses and I'm not really fat or really skinny. )
