More people will have a static IP address, I gurantee you.

IP bans are normally not used until a previously banned member reregisters.

Thats if someone has dial up. When someone is on Cable, the server decides when the IP will change, you have no control over getting a newly assigned IP from an ISP (on broadband) unless you talk to them directly and work something out, or REALLY know what the **** you are doing.

I'd have to say that IP bans arent used because they arent practical. They worked when everyone had dial up, but now if they were to ban your IP, you would just wait AT THE MOST a few hours until you were assigned a new one.

IP bans wouldn't work if you were on dial up Him, you'd have a dynamic IP address so all you'd have to do is disconnect and you're assigned a new IP address. Infact, in some cases banning a dynamic IP can lead to problems for other dial up members since they may be assigned said banned IP address.

Either way anyone can bypass an IP ban with a proxy, but you have to be really sad to continue to reregister on a forum

99% of Cable / DSL company's are running Dynamic IP's

Including ALL of sympatico (most likely what you use) and Cogeco / Southmount / Mountain Cable.

Dynamic is the cheaper way to go.
