Default Wal-Mart Interview

Wal-Mart haters: Go troll a different topic.

Others: Read on.

Roughly about two months ago (possibly more....I lost track), I submitted an job application for the electronics section at the local Wal-Mart. Today, I received a phone call from them, and I setup a interview for tomorrow at 3PM. The position is for "Assistant Sales Associate". Gotta love the technical terms...I guess it beats being a Sanitary Engineer.

Anyway, any former/current Wal-Mart employees or anyone else know what I should expect during the interview? I already have a good idea, but I always like to make sure that I cover all of my bases. Also, is there typically a second interview (I doubt it)?

Not talking from experience, but probly the usual stuff, plus general salesperson stuff. Just be knowledgeable and say it with confidence and you should get it. Wear something nice too.

My advice is this.....

As some time before the interview, (not on the same day) walk into the Walmart as if you are customer. Walk to the electronics section had have a pretent to be itnerested in product like a computer system or notebook computer or some thing else.

Just take not of the sale persons behavour and what he says and all that sort of stuff. Like one of those Mystery Shoppers.
And then before the interview, work out how you can be better than their existing sales staff, and then high light these points at the interview.
However do not tell them that you did the Mystery Shopper thing.

Being that i am a Wal-Mart Mgr. I think i can help. I do many interviews.

Basically they ask situational questions now. Like what you would do in this situation or this one. Be honest about the answers. We can tell from previous job experience if you are lying or not.

The questions asked cant be determined since they change for each job position. Since you are going for Electronics (an area which i ran before) i can say that they will ask what you will do if customers have specific questions. How you handle pressure and tight situations.

Best piece of advice i can give is to go in there with specific examples of the certain situations you will be commonly asked about. Like theft, pressure, and attendance.

I used to work at Wal-Mart and there were 2 interviews. The first one where they ask you qestioms and the second one where they tell you you got hired and ask you to go do the drug test. At least that is how it worked in my area.

My grandpa calls it Wal-Martinez.

It is convenient though, since they are open late. Used to be open all the time.

Thanks. That's pretty much what I wanted to know.

A quick question for you, what do most applicants wear to interviews?

Edited to fix a typo that was bugging me.

walmart...I wouldn't mind getting a job there if I needed one, which I have. But I don't shop there, lol...unless no other place has a particular item

I also worked the electronics department...I was their godsend. But that's not saying much...I just knew stuff in a department full of white trash hicks. There were blacks and hispanics too but you get the point...just people who work in the department to work it.

Depending on the management...only do what you sign up for. Don't try to do anything else, less you start getting abused. I messed up my shoulder something fierce because of the lazy fat *******s there. Yeah, scary I could lift a boxed 32 inch TV by myself

Keep this in mind, no matter what you can lift by yourself...don't lift anything like a 20" TV by yourself...the wear and tear will get to you...especially if you are the sole one who did it.

I chose nightshift to get away from the neanderthals after a while...and of course that didn't make things all that much better. For example...if you are the one actually stocking at night...and customers said so and so said you were out...and you knew you had them in stock. It just ticks you off something fierce. Especially if you like helping customers, which I did. Lazy mf'ers.

The walmart I worked for had this slick manager that acted like he got down and dirty sometimes...during the tour you saw him in "working" clothes...AFTER, you never ever saw him do anything like that again. shifty

lol

I shop at Target, much better class of people with management that tries to make their employees care a bit and often times it show a whole lot more than Walmart. Target!!!

lol @ getting tips for a walmart interview.

they'll probably just ask if you're fine with being underpaid, receiving lack-lusted benefits and generally being under-compensated for your time and effort.

Any interview is nerve-racking, even if it is for a wal-mart position.

Situational questions:
What would you do in these specific situations that will tend to challenge your enforcement of the policy. What if you dont agree with the policy etc..

Personality type:
These tend to gravitate towards small-talk sometimes. My roommate has been asked what would his last meal be if he was going to die. And weird questions like that.

the hard ones are:
what motivates you to do your best? and questions like that.
